Why wait till December to recommend the best films released in 2023? Instead, Vanity Fair critic Richard Lawson is keeping a running list of notable films to watch as they open throughout the year. Existential unease, literate thrills, devastation: They’re all present in Lawson’s inaugural rundown, as is a surprisingly sharp mainstream horror sequel.
