According to the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, loneliness is a more significant epidemic than obesity or smoking.
The consequences of loneliness are so dire, especially for older adults, that Dr. Murthy recommends a six-step framework that includes creating a “culture of connection” via activities like taking classes.
At Senior Planet from AARP, our classes are more than just learning a new tech skill or getting a good workout, we are always working to foster social connectivity amongst attendees. We pride ourselves on being a community hub for older adults, both in-person and online.
Since the start of 2023, 67% of participants who took a Senior Planet class in-person agreed they felt more connected to others as a result of their attendance.
