Dear Friends of Greentown Labs,

Two tenets of our mission here at Greentown are convening ecosystems around climatetech entrepreneurship and connecting our founders with folks who can help their startups succeed. This past month has been filled with events and special visits in service of these aims!

We were honored to host Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk and other guests from the U.S. Department of Energy at Greentown Boston for a tour and roundtable discussion with our members Phoenix Tailings, Sublime Systems, Verne, and Zephyr, all of which are ARPA-E award recipients. The climatetech ecosystem also convened in Boston this month for our quarterly Sector Pitch Day, which focused on electricity and energy innovations and brought together our startups, corporate partners, and investor network to discuss pathways to decarbonizing the sector.

In Houston, we enthusiastically partnered with The Ion on a Black History Month fireside chat and networking event. The evening explored the disproportionate impact of climate change on marginalized communities, especially communities of color, and groundbreaking solutions to address these inequities.

Read on for our members’ latest achievements, Greentown Go application deadlines, upcoming events where you can engage with startups, and more—and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to get involved with or support our community. Thank you for your commitment to climate action!

Warmly,
The Greentown Labs Team

Member Milestones

What does climate action look like? Climatetech startups receiving funding, winning awards, deploying their tech around the world, and more! Read a roundup of our members’ recent milestones here and check out some highlights below:

  • Peak Power secured $200M to deploy and finance energy storage projects using its energy optimization software for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • SWTCH Energy partnered with AutoGrid to integrate 250 EV chargers in multi-tenant properties into an active-demand-response program with a Canadian utility.

  • Terrapin Geothermics is working with Gonezu Energy in the Northwest Territories, Canada to provide local Indigenous governments with insight into potential geothermal resources.
  • Future launched a new feature: when customers reduce their emissions by buying an EV, switching to an induction stove, installing solar, and more, they will receive FutureCoins, which let them track each metric ton of carbon they save and either sell or retire them.
  • Nth Cycle announced that it would offer a premium mixed hydroxide precipitate nickel intermediary product for nickel sulfate producers, shoring up a risk in the EV battery supply chain.
