Next Year’s Oscar Buzz Is Already Here
Feel like it’s too early to start talking about next year’s Oscar race? Try telling that to the buyers who snapped up films at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this month. Or, for that matter, try saying it to this year’s Oscar nominees like Living, A House Made of Splinters, and Fire of Love, all of which premiered at last year’s Sundance.
On the Little Gold Men podcast, David Canfield, Rebecca Ford, and Richard Lawson catch up on the buzziest titles from this year’s festival, from high-profile festival acquisitions like Fair Play and Flora and Son to what could be A24’s next acclaimed breakout hit, Past Lives. The festival featured performances from actors showing new aspects of their talent, like Jonathan Majors in Magazine Dreams and Gael García Bernal in Cassandro, to discoveries like Fair Play star Phoebe Dynevor. And, as always at Sundance, there were a number of standout documentaries, including the Michael J. Fox portrait Still and the moving The Eternal Memory.
Listen to the group discuss them all on Little Gold Men, an episode that also includes a visit from returning guest Joe Reid, who brings some fascinating statistics about this year’s Oscar nominees.
