Sunday will be warm with a possibility of a rumble. The day will feature patchy sunshine and a high of around 74 degrees. 

🏛️ Governor Walz will sign the Democracy for the People Act into law protecting the freedom to vote and increasing voting accessibility. The bill allows 16- and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote and establishes automatic voter registration. The bill also restores the right to vote for individuals who are no longer incarcerated for a felony conviction. 
 

🕯️The family and friends of missing Winona mother Madeline Kingsbury are asking the community to join them for a prayer service this evening. The event “Shining a light for Madeline” will be held at the Band Shell near Veterans Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m in Winona. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the venue for the community gathering and prayer service will be moved to First Congregational Church.

🧙‍♂️  Magic Con Minneapolis begins today. The convention is a full weekend dedicated to celebrating Magic: The Gathering, a tabletop and digital collectable card game. Attendees can expect to see epic cosplay, meet special guests and artists, shop exclusive merch and more.

Lake Street art drop hopes to draw people back to commercial, cultural corridor

• The Lake Street Council worked with a local artist to hide 7 works of art, from recycled fanny packs to mini-painting, along a several-block stretch of East Lake Street for a free scavenger hunt called the Lake Street Art Drop.
• Organizers posted clues on Instagram every few minutes, and hunters who found the hidden art got to keep it for themselves.
• Organizers see the art drop as a way to attract people to the commercial and cultural corridor after difficulties during the pandemic and the unrest following the murder of George Floyd.
• This will be the first of several art drops with different artists along different sections of Lake Street, on the first Thursday of every month through the summer.

“It’s been slow and sad to not have people out and about more and feeling safe. Feeling like they want to be in the neighborhood. Be a part of the neighborhood. So I hope that is changing and things like this can help,” said Anna Wienke, a South Minneapolis-based artist, whose pieces of art were hidden for the art drop.
