From Amber Nettles, SVP of Growth & Strategy
It has been a while since we launched something “new,” which is one of many reasons I’m thrilled to announce the launch of In the Loop, our new arts and culture newsletter.

This email newsletter will go out twice a month on Thursdays, and will feature what’s new and what’s next in the Chicago arts and culture scene. From reviews on the latest books and on-stage productions, to a deep dive into the city’s art exhibitions and the creators behind them, In the Loop will keep you informed on how to enjoy the best Chicago has to offer. We’re now accepting ad reservations and are seeking launch sponsors, so please let us know you are interested!

RED ALERT! We have two big issues coming up: March 23 is our Spring Arts Preview and April 6 is our Best of Chicago issue. Contact us to reserve space in these issues!

Branded content in 2023
Tell Your Story to our Readers The Reader loves to work with businesses and individuals with great stories to tell, and we’re happy to discuss the various options for branded content series! For an example, check out Cityscape, a branded content partnership of the Chicago Architecture Center, Chicago History Museum, and Wrightwood 659, along with the Reader’s architecture coverage. You can also see examples from LaLaMove, DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Tourist Office of Spain in Chicago, along with our Bull Horn series (sponsored by Red Bull in 2021) and our Poetry Corner (created in partnership with the Poetry Foundation). Contact us to talk about telling your story!

These nothings Aria Dean wants you in the hot seat—or cold storage. Her intentions aren’t subtle: you enter her exhibition at the Renaissance Society through aluminum double doors with rubber-trimmed circular windows and step onto a field of black industrial rubber flooring blanketed in nonslip nubbins. ‘Don’t Act Like You Forgot:’ Shonna Pryor’s ‘Fiscal Frontiers’ A portal can be a gate, a door, a website. A pathway is what exists beyond the gate, the door, the webpage. Portals are changed by the people who once occupied their ether, just as pathways are shaped by all those who’ve traveled their twists and turns. This is good, this is how futures begin. MORE

Tales of our nights There’s a tranquil moment of healing in act two, when a teary-eyed Marwa turns to their older brother Yousif and pleads, “I don’t want 17 years to pass.” That instant captures the heartbeat of Layalina (lay-ali-na), a new play at the Goodman that aims to remind us what family can truly mean at best.
