Emotional family calls for action on teen violence after boy killed in Minneapolis
A 14-year-old boy, Alan Davis, was shot and killed near 37th and Bryant Avenue North in Minneapolis on Memorial Day. His family spoke out about the violence involving young people in the city during a press conference on Wednesday.
Alan’s mother said that her son had been bullied and was ultimately killed because others thought he had snitched on some other middle schoolers, who Alan thought were his friends. The family says that isn’t true. They describe Alan as a peaceful person and a scholar.
Police are still investigating Richmond’s death. No arrests have been made at this time.
“I sat at the table with him. I ate with him. I laid down. I went to sleep,” Alan’s sister, Alicia Davis, recalled. “That was the last time I saw my brother.”
The family is currently dealing with an unbelievable amount of grief. Alan’s grandfather was in tears as he shared his pain.
“Sometimes we look at the police as being negative, but I look at them today as positive because they tried to bring my grandson back, but God gave him his wings,” Alan’s grandfather, Frank Davis, said.
Rebates aim to make e-bikes affordable, reduce pollution
Minnesota will start giving rebates of up to 75% of the cost of e-bikes to a maximum of $1500. Families in higher income brackets get smaller rebates up to $1000 or half the cost.
E-bike research shows that by the mile, they create 1/70 the climate emissions of gas-fueled cars. EPA studies reveal Minnesota could cut 826 metric tons of carbon dioxide every day if just 8% of people commuting five miles or less used e-bikes instead of cars
“Every year our growth has been fantastic and now it’s just exponential,” said Pam Sayker, co-owner of Trailhead Cycling.
She says at they still sell more regular, “acoustic” bikes, but the electric two-wheelers are catching up.
