Cultivating and sustaining public trust is vital to the health of any organization. For the last five years, Give.org has conducted surveys on donor trust, asking what most signals the trustworthiness of a nonprofit organization. Top factors consistently cited are:
- Accomplishments shared by the organization;
- Third-party evaluation by an independent organization; and,
- Name recognition.
The surveys reveal differences in what is viewed as important by different constituencies. For example, newer generations are more likely to respond to the passion and sincerity of a particular nonprofit’s appeal while previous generations are more likely to respond to a third-party monitor’s rating of an organization
