🚨 After a weekend of chaos and violence in Dinkytown, a safety meeting will be held at the University Baptist Church tonight at 6:30 p.m. Minneapolis City Council members and police have been invited along with police from the University of Minnesota.

👮‍♀️ A press conference will be held after Deputy Kaitie Leising was shot and killed by a suspected drunk driver Saturday night in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced.

💜 Governor Walz will sign a bill into law renaming a section of Highway 5 in honor of Prince. Purple signs will also go up along the seven-mile stretch.

Dinkytown businesses warn increased police presence not curbing recent violence

In Dinkytown, Minneapolis Police say a group of around 50 people were engaging in disorderly behavior multiple nights in a row this past weekend.
Business owners are concerned that a temporary increase in police won’t solve the problem of violence in Dinkytown because they believe that juveniles are not deterred by a police presence because they don’t believe there will be serious consequences if caught.
MPD said out of nine juveniles cited or detained Thursday through Saturday, five were cited and released.

“It will help for a week – maybe two weeks,” Mike Mulrooney, the owner of Blarney’s Pub in Dinkytown told FOX 9. “We really have to come up with a solution and quit saying here’s what we’re going to throw at it this week.”

“We want to see a smart policy from the city and the university,” said Vic Thorstenson the president of the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association. “I think there’s a lot beyond police patrols that can be done.”

Bloomington man makes beer-powered motorcycle

Ky Michaelson has built what he believes is the world’s first beer-powered motorcycle in his garage in Bloomington.
Instead of a gas engine, the bike has a 14-gallon keg with a heating coil inside. When he pours beer into the keg, the liquid heats up to 300 degrees, and when it goes out the nozzles in the back, the beer turns into superheated steam, which provides enough thrust to move the bike forward.
Michaelson plans to test his beer-powered motorcycle on a drag strip sometime soon, but after a few demonstrations, it will probably end up in the museum in his house.

“The price of gas is getting up there. I don’t drink. I’m not a drinker, so I can’t think of anything better than to use it for fuel,” said Michaelson.

“It could be any kind of liquid. It could be Red Bull. It could be Caribou Coffee. It could be anything. But beer. Why not,” said Ky’s son Buddy.
